What an "Anchor Workout" Is and How to Build One
Most people try to schedule fitness around everything else in their week. Then everything else wins. An anchor workout flips that. It's the one session you build the week around — the thing that doesn't move.
Step 1: Pick a time that repeats
The best anchor is one that lands at the same time on the same days, so it becomes automatic instead of a daily decision. Mine is the 6 AM class, then my own workout right after. It's not up for debate every morning — it's just what I do. That's what makes it hold.
Step 2: Make it non-negotiable, not perfect
Your anchor doesn't have to be your hardest or longest workout. It has to be the one you'll keep. A shorter session you never skip beats an ambitious plan you abandon by week two.
Step 3: Protect it like an appointment
You wouldn't cancel a doctor's appointment because you got busy. Treat your anchor the same way. Put it on the calendar. Tell your family. Guard it. Everything else in your fitness routine can flex around it — but the anchor stays.
Step 4: Stack from there
Once the anchor is automatic, you can add a second session, or a walk, or a nutrition habit. But not before. One solid anchor is worth more than four shaky intentions.
Start with one. Build from it. That's how a routine actually survives a real life.
